The term "aerosol" is used to describe a mixture of air and all possible particles that could be present in the air, such as droplets, dust, pollen etc., in the size range from around 1 nm to 100 µm. In order to allow clear comparisons of the functions of e.g. filters and particle measurement devices, defined test aerosols made of solids are required. All Palas® aerosol generators meet the stringent requirements of VDI guideline 3491. Depending on the model of aerosol generator, the test particles can be generated from solutions (e.g. NaCl, KCl), suspensions (e.g. biological aerosols), powders and dusts (e.g. pollen, A1 to A4 dusts), from monolithic solids (e.g. chalk) or as a result of condensation and combustion processes. The test aerosols or test particles are manufactured with optimized dosing consistency and outstanding reproducibility. The test aerosols can be generated with mass flows – depending on the model – ranging from a few µg/h to more than 6 kg/h. The particle size distributions of the test aerosols range from around 1 nm to 100 µm and can be manufactured to be monodisperse or polydisperse depending on the model and aerosol substance.
